Last-Minute Memorial Day Weekend Getaway to Boston
Honoring Fallen Heroes
Memorial Day is a time to honor those members of our country’s military who have died in wars defending our freedom. Each year in Boston, the Massachusetts Military Heroes organization plants 37,000 flags to honor those service members at its Garden of Flags at Boston Common. Flags remain in place through Monday evening for visitors to see.
Taking in a Game or Two
Baseball fan? You’re in luck! The Boston Red Sox play four home games this Memorial Day weekend, all at world-famous Fenway Park. Since many Boston residents take advantage of the long weekend to head to local beaches or Martha’s Vineyard, tickets for the games are still available. Visit one of the best known baseball stadiums and enjoy its traditions as you cheer on the Sox (or the Atlanta Braves or Toronto Blue Jays)!
Enjoying Live Music
Returning to Harvard University’s Athletic Stadium this Memorial Day Weekend is Boston Calling, a three day indie and rock concert festival featuring Eminem, The Killers, and many more. In addition to three music stages, there will be a comedy stage, over 30 food vendors, and many more sights and sounds to take in.
Exploring by Land or by Sea
Experience all that Boston can offer by strolling the historic streets with a volunteer guide from Boston By Foot, which offers guided walking tours of Boston’s neighborhoods and Freedom Trail. Pop into the Museum of Fine Arts on its free admission day on Monday. Or rent a bike and take a group tour of the city – with so many residents out of town, the streets will be more open for navigating (and great exercise).
Viewing Boston from the Charles River is an option for those who would rather sail along and see the sights. The Charles Riverboat Company offers sunset and sightseeing tours as does the Classic Harbor Line, which also offers brunch cruises.
Traveling anywhere around Memorial Day weekend will always come with its share of hassles. Take the stress out of your transportation and book rides with GroundLink from Boston’s Logan Airport to and around the city, and enjoy a long weekend in one of the U.S.’s most historic cities.
