New Wellness Program for Drivers
On May 7th, the Black Car Fund (BCF) and Independent Drivers Guild (IDG) announced an official launch of a new Mental Health and Wellness Program which will be free and accessible to NYC’s For-Hire Vehicle (FHV) Drivers.
The Driver Wellness program focuses on prevention and crisis intervention for the struggling, low-income FHV drivers that are in need of help. The counseling services will be available in multiple languages such as English, Spanish, Urdu, Bengali, and Mandarin! The program includes:
Weekly Driver Discussion Circles: The Discussion circle will be led by a clinical social worker with the goal that the drivers share their experiences and identify and face on-the-job stressors. This session will offer an in-person way to connect, raise concerns, share advice, and learn coping skills.
Immediate counseling Serviced for High-Risk Individuals: A licensed counselor will provide group and family therapy sessions.
Case Management Support: Drivers and Families will have the opportunity to be assessed by social workers, and linked to services like SNAP benefits, housing assistance, disability support services and more based on their evaluation.
Creating a Community Network: Participants will receive the proper training in order to identify the warning signs of a mental health crisis and how to carry out mental health first aid.
If anyone is experiencing a mental health crisis know that you’re not alone and reach out to the NYC WELL 24/7 hotline at 888-692-9355 for immediate assistance.
